Important Notice for Texas & State Board Regulations

The practice of pharmacy technicians is regulated by state boards of pharmacy. Important Note for Working in Texas: The Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) requires candidates seeking full registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician to pass a national certification examination from PTCB (PTCE) or NHA (ExCPT). The MedCA PT1 certification is an independent national credential that validates fundamental competencies but is not currently listed for full TSBP registration in Texas. Candidates without PTCB or NHA credentials may register in Texas as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee (a non-renewable registration valid for up to 2 years). Students are encouraged to verify specific employer or state board licensing requirements in their respective state.
